A phone call
So yesterday I received an encouraging phone call from the geneticist. She found a clinical trial at the National Institute of Health in Maryland, in the Center of Diabetes. It is a study of how Leptin is used to treat lipodystrophy and they are very interested in having Emily in the trial. So we should be on our way to Maryland sometime in the next month, for about a week of tests and doctor visits and to hopefully begin the drug treatment. Leptin is a hormone that normally circulates in the blood so it is not just some random drug they are trying, and so far it appears to be the main treatment for lipodystrophy. We are really excited about this opportunity and are so glad someone out there wants to help Emily. I just received more information and haven't had time to read it so I will update more later this week, but I just wanted to share that amazing answer to prayer. Thankfully the kids only have two more days of school, we are ready for a break from driving all over in the frigid temps and the homework. Justin is continuing to work, we just play everyday by ear as many times they don't call him until right before he needs to leave for work. We have settled into a nice routine here and are really looking forward to focusing on the joy of the Christmas season.
